Why Pray?

At Rishangles Baptist Church when we pray we believe that we are speaking with God. Some may think that we do this because the practice of praying is something that churches or individual Christians have done in the past and that we are just keeping up a tradition. But the truth is that much of the time we pray because we want to or maybe need  to, but also because we think that prayer is important.

There are several reasons we think of prayer as important. Amongst these are that in the Bible we read that Jesus was often found praying, and also taught other people about prayer and its importance. However there is also the fact that the Bible instructs us to pray, so

 

Some may think that we pray since that is something that churches have done for many years and we just do it today as if we were just sticking to a tradition., But the truth is we pray not only because we want to, but also because we believe that praying is really important. There are several for praying being important.

Firstly God’s word the Bible tells us to pray.

Secondly Jesus sets us an example for our lives and He was often seen to be praying so clearly thought that pray was important so shouldn’t we.

There are actually several reasons for praying. However we can thank God for the good things that we sometimes have in life,

One of the greatest benefits of prayer is that when we pray we can ask God to get involved in situations that may be beyond us, but are not beyond him. For example when something goes wrong in life we may not be able to fix the situation. However when we ask God to get involved, then anything could happen.

Those of us who are part of Rishangles Baptist Church spend time praying about things that are going on in the church as well as the things going on in the lives of those who attend the church. We also pray however for other people, our communities, our country and situations that are going on around the world. We believe that asking God into situations can make a real difference.
